Arrival

Graduates should plan to arrive when gates open and/or at least one hour before the start of the ceremony and go directly to the graduate check-in, located near the west stands. Please check the scheduled times for gates to open for the ceremony you are attending. Schedule and details can be found at https://commencement.udel.edu/general-information/.

Please plan to arrive early. There may be delays with traffic or due to social distancing and health and safety protocols.
A: Graduates should go to the graduate check-in, located near the west stands, to get their ticket. Graduates will enter through the general admission gates, pass through security check, show their ticket, and enter the field to take their seat. There will not be a processional of graduates into the stadium.

A: Yes, there will be a live webcast of the Commencement ceremony. If you have family or friends unable to attend this year’s Commencement, they can view the ceremony live on the UD Live Website.
A: Delaware Stadium‘s address is 625 South College Avenue, Newark DE. In case your GPS does not recognize that address, you can also use the latitude and longitude, which is 39.66, -75.75.

 

Tickets and Seating

A: Yes, graduates need tickets to enter the stadium. They obtain their ticket upon arrival for the ceremony, by providing their student ID.
A: Yes, all guests need tickets. All tickets are assigned seats. Please sit in the assigned seat to best observe social distancing.
A: No, all tickets are free of charge.
A: Tickets for guests will be available from April 20 through May 7, 2021. A link will be provided on the Commencement website.
A: Yes, each eligible graduate is allotted 2 guest tickets.
A: No. Graduating students must reserve their guest tickets using their University of Delaware ID number and email.
A regular ticket is required. The graduate can request accessible seating when reserving tickets.
A: Accessible on–field seating will be available for persons if the accessible seating area is full.

We will make every effort to allow all guests to accompany the person(s) that require this accommodation. However, due to space constraints, we may need to request each individual be accompanied by one (1) guest to accommodate everyone who needs assistance. The University of Delaware does not provide wheelchairs.

 

Security

A: Security personnel will be at each entrance to Delaware Stadium and conduct a bag check. We reserve the right to deny admittance to any individual.
A: Guests are strongly discouraged from bringing bags unless necessary. There are no X–ray machines, so security personnel will have to search through bags by hand. This may cause delays entering the stadium. We cannot store any prohibited items, and you may be asked to return the item to your vehicle prior to admittance to Delaware Stadium. Security personnel reserve the right to deny admittance to any individual.
A: You can bring cell phones, smart phones, and small cameras into Delaware Stadium. (See prohibited items list below).

You can also bring a sealed non-alcoholic beverage and snacks. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no concessions available for purchase at the ceremonies.
A: The following items will not be allowed inside Delaware Stadium:
  • Noise makers, balloons and large signs
  • Glass bottles/cans
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Backpacks, large bags
  • Coolers/ice chests/thermoses
  • Open containers
  • Umbrellas
  • Video cameras and tripods
  • Weapons/firearms
  • Animals, except for service animals
  • Strollers
  • Sporting equipment
Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere on the University of Delaware campus.

Security personnel reserve the right to deny admittance to any individual and to prohibit items that may not be included on the above list.
A: This will be at the discretion of security.
A: No, once your ticket is scanned, you will not be allowed to leave and re-enter. Due to the large crowd, we recommend that you remain inside so that you are not separated from your party.

 

Parking

A: There will be abundant parking at Delaware Stadium. For additional information on parking, please refer to the Directions & Parking web page for information. There are several privately owned parking lots close to the stadium that are not UD property. Please do not park in these lots as the owners may tow you at your expense.

A: Tailgating is not permitted in any parking lot during commencement.

 

Other Information

A: Each ceremony will last between 2-3 hours.
A: This year, attendance is restricted to less than 20% of stadium occupancy (approximately 4,000 total people) while maintaining social distancing measures, in accordance with CDC and state of Delaware guidelines for outdoor events.
A: Commencement is held outdoors, rain-or-shine, so be prepared for all types of weather. Guests should dress comfortably as it is usually warm, and Delaware Stadium has no shade. Umbrellas are not permitted because they block the view of those behind you. Please remember sunblock, hats and the needs of the more vulnerable members of your party.

A: The Commencement ceremony will be live streamed at udel.edu/udlive. However, an indoor location on campus will not be provided.

A: Volunteers and staff in and around the stadium will assist you with any questions.
A: No. Due to COVID-19 related restrictions, no food and beverages will be available for purchase. Guests and graduates are permitted to bring in sealed, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks in clear bags.
A: No pets are permitted in Delaware Stadium except for service animals.
